Fund mission: To protect fishing communities affected by climate change and its multiple ocean consequences, by supporting solutions that work for the people who have to live with them. Julia was a fierce proponent of this approach, which has long been central at NFCC’s Global Ocean Health program. The Memorial Fund’s first project is a joint endeavor with the Thane Tienson Memorial Fund for Salmon Conservation: supporting research on the potential of emerging genetic tools to shore up faltering wild Chinook salmon populations—and communities that depend on them—by improving critical management data on spawning populations and their contribution to catches.
